Continuing Education Recognition Program
Because You Never Stop Learning
GIA's Continuing Education Recognition Program helps GIA Graduate Gemologists and Gemologists stay current on the latest trends in gemology and the jewelry industry.
Offered completely online, the program delivers education in an easy-to-access, media-rich format, that's not only full of practical content, but also fun to view. What's more, the program provides graduates with an additional credential that communicates their commitment to life-long learning and professional development.
As an alumnus who is working toward your Graduate Gemologist or Gemologist credential, GIA's Diamonds & Diamond Grading, Colored Stones, and Gem Identification courses are available to further your education.
NOW BIGGER AND BETTER THAN EVER.
Beginning in 2010, you'll be able to access Continuing Education via GIA’s new online learning environment. This means a single sign-on brings you to My GIA, the secure online portal, and entry to the Continuing Education Recognition Program. We’ve also added many new and exciting features to make your learning experience more robust and comprehensive; providing exactly the content you need to keep you at the cutting edge of gemology.
HIGHLIGHTS OF THE ENHANCED PROGRAM
8 Interactive Assignments released monthly from January to August via GIA’s exciting new eLearning platform, featuring video, images, and online lectures by some of the best and brightest minds in gemology.
Review access to GIA eLearning courses as they become available. This includes the brand new Colored Stones eLearning course launched January 2010, in addition to Diamond Essentials, Colored Stone Essentials, Diamonds & Diamond Grading – and later this year, Gem Identification.
A media library of hundreds of videos on grading, mining, manufacturing, gem formation, interviews with industry greats and more. Exclusive footage not available elsewhere, all set up for easy access and viewing.

Exclusive industry chat sessions with special guest participants, including the scientists involved in some of the most important gemological topics of the day.
Online Glossary of more than 500 key gemological terms complete with references to the eLearning course materials where they can be found.
New Continuing Education Recognition Credential – one you’ll be proud to display along side your existing GIA diplomas.
Plus, an optional online subscription to Gems & Gemology, which includes G&G eBrief, the new monthly newsletter available only to G&G subscribers. It’s full of timely, accurate, and practical information you can put to use right away.
HOW IT WORKS
Submit your registration form. Once your eligibility for the program is confirmed, you’ll be given a User ID and Password (if you don’t already have one), giving you entry to My GIA and the Continuing Education Recognition Program, including assignments, eLearning courses, the media library, the glossary, the forums, and exclusive chats.
Complete all 8 program assignments and their corresponding questionnaires with a score of 75% or better on each questionnaire by December 31st of each year. Each assignment takes about 30 minutes to view and complete.
Once you’ve successfully finished all assignments, submit an online Petition to Graduate and your GIA Continuing Education Recognition Credential will be mailed to you.
You can sign up any time during the year, but the program cycle ends on December 31st of each year. So to get the maximum benefit, it pays to register and participate early.
